Who was Saint Valentine?
Valentine’s Day got its name from a very famous saint. There are many stories about him like who was he. There is an age-old belief that Saint (St) Valentine was a famous priest in Rome in the 3rd century AD. Emperor Claudius II in the 3rd century banned marriage as he thought that married men are not good soldiers and are distracted from the battlefield.
St Valentine felt that this rule was unfair to all the people, so he got against the Emperor and broke the rule. Valentine married a girl in secret. When the emperor Claudius II found out, he ordered to catch Valentine and throw him in jail and valentine was order to hang till death.
In jail, Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter. When valentine on 14th February, was taken to hang he sent a love letter to her love which was signed as “from your valentine”. So this was the story of Saint Valentine, who died for the welfare of the people.
